Been way too long
It's a new year and it has been months since I have posted anything. Not that I haven't been painting, but I definitely have not been painting as much. That is about to change. I have been staring at this work for months and tweaking it here and there, never really feeling like I had it right and then this week, it finally came together. I think she is finally done.
The Curtis photograph that inspired her is described as "Cecilia Joaquin, Pomo woman, using a seed beater to gather seeds into a burden basket, c. 1924." I love the shadows in this photograph, especially the one cast across her skirt, made by her arm her seed beater.
I hope that I captured the essence of Curtis' original photo.
